Meet the Team
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Samuel Bennett Ph.D.
PhD in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, 2022
MSc in Sport and Exercise Physiology, 2018
BSc in Sport and Exercise Science, 2017
School of Sport and Exercise Science, Liverpool John Moores University, UK

Sam has relocated from Liverpool, UK with his wife and dog (Rudy) to join the Sato Lab. Sam’s previous work has focused on the impact of timing of exercise and nutritional intake on metabolic and performance outcomes in trained individuals and looks forward to applying his exercise physiology experience in the circadian biology field. Sam enjoys the outdoors and looks forward to exploring some national parks whilst he is in the US.
Research Associate
Shoko Sato
Bachelor in Human Sciences, Waseda University, Japan, 2009

After 5years of experience as a lab technician in the late Paolo Sassone-Corsi Laboratory at the University of California, Irvine, Shoko joined the Sato Lab. She has experience dealing with 20+ transgenic mutant colonies in 5 years, 3500+ mice at a time, and genotyping/maintaining all mice and mating for expanding the colonies to assist postdocs in their animal experiments. She was excited to move back to Texas and enjoys her new life in College Station with her husband, human baby (Nalu), and fur babies (Corsi and Hora), except for the crazy Texas heat!

Undergraduate Research Assistant
Anna Huynh
Bachelor of Arts, Department of English
Pre-Med Track

Anna is currently a sophomore English major following a pre-med track at Texas A&M. In pursuit of medical school, she is exploring her passion of science in research through the Sato lab, where she hopes to define specific neurological metabolites involved in the circadian rhythm to further investigate possible improvements of metabolic and neural health. When she’s not in the lab, Anna loves to express herself artistically through painting, drawing, writing, and anything else that involves creativity!
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Nicolas Park
Sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biology

Nicolas is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biology while preparing for medical school. His current research focuses on the role of circadian rhythm on breast cancer stem cells. Nicolas loves to be active in his free time playing many different sports.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Mariam Sharief
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology, Business Minor

Mariam Sharief is currently a Sophmore Biology major from Sugar Land, Texas. She is an aspiring surgeon, with hopes to attend medical school after undergraduate school. Currently she is working with Samuel Bennet on a project regarding the various ages and timings of mice and its relation to exercise implementation. Their goal being, determining those effects on the various components within the mice, with the immediate focus being the metabolic effects in their various tissues. Through her time in the Sato lab she hopes to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how physical activity can greatly impact different aspects of an organisms body. Outside of her love for the field of science, she loves reading, painting, working out, and playing basketball.
